Rachell Jones is a New Zealand painter who creates original artworks from her home in Auckland. Her painting eye is very much like a photographer has an eye for the 'right shot' and carries with it an amazing realistic attention to detail. Along with that she is interested in the 'snapshot', a smaller piece of a greater picture. As a 'viewer' we are encouraged to imagine the rest of the story. You will see this particularly in her contemporary figurative pieces.

Rachell draws inspiration from the beauty of New Zealand flowers and people. She concentrates on strong and resilient flowers like roses and magnolias which also have an emotive association and a sense of fragility. In the Figurative works Rachell is curious about the way that hands, shoulders and jaw lines are romantic parts of the body. They embody everything that is natural, beautiful and are something that we use to express our emotions. "So it's nice to be able to paint a segment of a moment of intimacy using parts of the body to express this emotion because this is what we all do every day." says Rachell.

Rachell's work is produced with a high level of detail developed over a great number of hours. "It is a thoroughly satisfying experience to work so long and hard on something, to see the final piece" says Rachell, "I love getting into the detail of different parts of the painting and then stepping back to see how it all fits in together!"

A significant amount of her work is Commission based where people contact Rachell to paint something special for their own unique space. Her artwork is highly commended which is why her work is now hanging in private collections in New Zealand and abroad.

Rachell surprises many by painting with such realism after only 5 years of painting. Her ideas are so convincing and true to life that it is easy to see why her paintings are now sought after.
