How to commission a painting...

'Commissioning a Painting' means getting an original emotive oil painting. It means getting exactly what you want - guaranteed. It doesn't cost you any more than buying a painting off the wall.

There are many reasons why people choose to Commission a Painting:

  • To match the colours in your room
  • For a memory of a special place
  • For a gift to someone special
  • When you have something in mind already but cannot find the painting that matches your idea

How The Commission Process Works:

  1. You contact me with an idea or request for a painting
  2. We complete the ‘Commission Brief’ which is all about size, shape, subject, colours, and other paintings you like
  3. You pay a 30% deposit
  4. I prepare some colour sketches that match the Brief for you to consider
  5. When you are happy I start work on the final painting
  6. I present you with the finished painting

What if I am not happy with the end result?

If you are unhappy with the finished painting then you are not obligated to buy it. Thanks to all the preliminary consultations and completing a clear Commission Brief - this has never happened.

Commissioning a painting is exciting for both of us and it is nice for me to get to know who my painting is going to. I do commissioned paintings regularly and would love to design something for your special needs or produce something based on your specific ideas.

If you would like to commission me to do a painting for you just give me a call or drop me an email. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

A few words from recent Commissions:

"When a painting is finished I am always excited to see the look on the faces of those who have commissioned the work. It feels so much more satisfying meeting them, finding out what they want, and then to produce something especially for them. They are always delighted and I feel on cloud nine!" Enough is Enough - a commission painting by Rachell Jones Enough is Enough

"We would like to say how pleased we are with the manner in which Rachell interpreted the brief given by us to her.
'Configurative interpretation', is always a difficult task, but Rachell achieved this with outstanding clarity and understanding."

Field of Romance - A Painting by Rachell JonesField of Romance

"Having seen some of Rachell's paintings we were both enamored by her contemporary floral works. Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) our first choice had already been sold.

Rachell visited us in our home to discuss a commission. She considered the décor, the natural and artificial lighting, the most likely locations for a new piece and our many uneducated questions on the process.

All of this led us to a very easy and relaxed decision on a new work.
Rachell created a fundamentally different picture which captured all of the beauty of the original and met (and exceeded) our expectations. The artwork is now proudly displayed as the center piece in the heart of our home."

Our Homeland, Our Vista - An emotive oil painting by Rachell JonesOur Homeland, Our Vista

"In late 2007 we commissioned Rachell to paint a work of art to hang in our new house. We gave her some photos of places and memories that were special to us and she adapted them into a magnificent painting. She sketched an initial design, took on board our thoughts and comments and the finished work is more than we could have hoped for.

Throughout the process Rachell was totally professional did everything she said she would on time and was a pleasure to work with. Since it has been hanging in our lounge every visitor has remarked on how fantastic it looks and it is a marvelous feature."

Glorious Horizon Impressions - Auckland - An emotive commission painting by Rachell JonesGlorious Horizon Impressions - Auckland

"I wanted something for my wife's birthday that was different to the usual gifts, something that symbolized the many years we had lived together in Auckland. We were living in Australia at the time of commissioning and thought the various landmarks of Auckland would be a great inspiration to remind us of home. Rachell took this idea and completed a piece which to this day sits in our formal dining room.

Yes, we are now back home in Auckland and many dinner party conversations since have transpired from admiration of Rachells fine work."
